01 — Varanasi
Silver zari gilded in 24k gold, woven on pit looms in the kadhua technique — every motif a separate island of gold, with not one loose thread on the reverse.
02 — Kanchipuram
Three-ply mulberry silk with korvai borders: body and border woven separately, then interlocked by hand — a join made to outlive its wearer.
03 — Jaipur
Velvet and net worked in dabka, nakshi and kasab with a hand-held aari. A single bridal lehenga carries more than a hundred thousand stitches.
